Product Description With just two satellites, a subwoofer and an A/V center, the compact CS-500 uses digital processing circuitry to simulate the effect of a larger, five-speaker home theater system. Each satellite employs dual magnetically shielded 2.5-inch high output woofers and a 0.75-inch magnetically shielded tweeter mated to an exclusive Klipsch Tractrix(R) Horn, a design that delivers genuine lifelike sound as well as produces more output using less energy. Klipsch is the only speaker manufacturer to utilize horn technology in all of its product lines. In fact, the cutting-edge research that drives the development of the company's leading movie cinema speakers is also applied to the CS-500. The down-firing subwoofer utilizes a powerful 6.5-inch woofer. Due to its compact size, this subwoofer can easily be hidden away while still delivering dramatic low-end effects. The A/V center features a built-in Class D amplifier that distributes 35 watts of power to each satellite and 100 watts of power to the subwoofer. It also includes Dolby(R) Virtual Speaker technology along with a progressive scan DVD player, an AM/FM tuner with 20 station presets and three auxiliary inputs. The CS-500 even has the ability to pass high-definition signals through a component output and can simplify all of the auxiliary input connections into a single convenient output to the TV. An easy-to-use universal IR remote control directs all system functions as well as those of the TV and other entertainment devices.

Great system for the price! June 15, 2010 A Regular Joe (A Regular City, MI) 16 out of 18 found this review helpful
Klipsch is a recognized high quality name in home theater audio equipment, so I was very excited to receive this package. While, yes, you are not getting a blu-ray player with this system, you could expect to actually spend that $1000 retail price if you decided to purchase a system equal to this with a blu-ray player. As a secondary bedroom or even primary sound system, I found the quality to be superb for the price.
For a sub-$300 2.1 system this little guy really did well competing with our larger more expensive 5.1 Yamaha system. While the Yamaha will beat this system just because 5.1 will always sound better than 2.1, the sound from the speakers were crisper, clearer, and the subwoofer could nearly rattle the walls using it at full power. You still got the feeling of surround sound from this system.
For those who are not technologically inclined, this was not difficult at all to set up. I have had no problems with the DVD player thus far, and Klipsch has noted that they have fixed problems with a previous model.
If you're budget is under $300 and this is a second system for a smaller room or bedroom, I say go for it. If you have more to spend and this is going to be your main theater or living room sound system, I would look for a 5.1 or 7.1 system that you can hook a stand alone blu-ray player into.
Amazing bargain on a quality system August 3, 2010 littlepinksock (Middleburg VA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After reading the reviews, I was a bit hesitant to order this system. But, then, I also saw Klipsch's very direct and upfront responses and the actions they'd taken. I figured it was worth a chance to spend $250 for a $1000 system that has been upgraded by the manufacturer, so I ordered (also, I know how good Amazon is about returns...so the risk was low). I received the Klipsch system in less than two days (gotta love the "prime" delivery model) and was extremely impressed with the packaging and simple instructions. A lot of care has gone into preparing this rather modestly priced media set.
I love the sound and the graceful lines. Everything works perfectly, just as hoped. No quirks, as I'd had with my previous (and much more expensive) system. Also, it works perfectly with my Tivo (TV sound through the speakers), as well as my Logitech Squeezebox player, which is phenomenal, when considering how compact and simple the Klipsch system is. I can't believe I got such a quality setup for only $250. It has to the best deal on Amazon.
I am so happy with this system that I just ordered a second one for upstairs. You can't beat this one.
Klipsch CS-500 2.1 Home Theater System August 8, 2010 doowopJR System delivers great sound for a 2.1 speaker system. Home theater bass is there and you feel it. Speakers produce great audio & you can hear spoken words clearly.
DVD player is adequate. Set-up is fairly straighforward. Don't hear great surround sound detail, but what do you want in a 2.1 system. Overall an excellent choice for home theater sound at a very reasonable price.
Klipsch is the best! August 15, 2010 Stephanie Marcoux I had never heard of Klipsch until several years ago we needed new speakers for our sound system. I could hardly believe the quality of the sound, it made our old system sound new!
As a result when this deal for the home theater system came up, I grabbed it. The sound on our system is so much better and we no longer have to turn it up to 74 to hear dialog. Klipsch is now the only brand that we will buy!!
Great for our master bedroom! August 19, 2010 Krista Lyn (Minneapolis, MN) I've read the reviews for this product, and was skeptical because of all the negative reviews. Many have had problems with the DVD player and other issues but I must tell you about our experience!
We received this in the mail and set the home theatre system up in our bedroom. It was very easy to set up with clear directions. The speaker quality is amazing and we have had no difficulty with the DVD player. It works great and has greatly improved our movie watching experience.
I don't know that I'd recommend it for your "main" system in the living room, but it would work fine for that as well.
I have no complaints and highly recommend this home theatre system.
